Responsibilities

Operation, maintenance and scaling of database platforms handling terabytes of data
Design of scalable, reliable database architectures for different workloads and availability requirements
Support and optimization of databases including PostgreSQL on AWS RDS, ClickHouse, and YugabyteDB
Troubleshooting of database issues and query performance bottlenecks across large datasets
Improvement of schema design, data structures, migrations, and change management processes
Partnership with development teams during design and delivery to ensure robust, scalable solutions
Assessment and communication of technical risks and tradeoffs in database and platform decisions
Contribution to monitoring, observability, security, backup, and recovery practices across the database estate
Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation
Support and guidance of team members in using database resources effectively and efficiently

Requirements

Strong experience designing and administering large-scale databases handling terabytes of data with particular strength in PostgreSQL
Experience managing databases in at least one major cloud environment such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
Strong knowledge of database design, configuration, maintenance, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
Experience working with multiple database engines and understanding their operational tradeoffs
Familiarity with database development processes, operational best practices, and reliability principles
Basic knowledge of Terraform-managed databases or infrastructure as code
Strong English communication skills

Nice-to-have

Experience with Apache Kafka
Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
Experience with Grafana or similar observability tooling
Scripting or coding skills in Bash or Python
