Responsibilities

Ownership of Android application architecture and implementation
Development and maintenance of camera and media capture layer
Coordination of connected devices as a single system
Design of robust data and media transfer for unreliable networks
Integration of native C++ computer vision components
Management of release lifecycle including Google Play submissions
Implementation of crash reporting, diagnostics and observability
Design for battery consumption, thermal behaviour and background execution restrictions
Collaboration with backend, design and computer vision engineers
Maintenance of high engineering standards with testable and maintainable code
Contribution to planning, estimation and task breakdown
Use of AI-assisted and delegated development tools

Requirements

Mobile application development experience of at least 4 years
Substantial delivery of native Android applications using Kotlin
Portfolio of applications shipped and available on Google Play
Experience with full development lifecycle from project creation to store approval
Degree in software-related technical discipline or equivalent practical experience
Willingness to learn new technologies, tools and platforms
Expert-level knowledge of native Android development using Kotlin
Expert-level knowledge of device-to-device communication and data serialisation including Wi-Fi Direct and Protocol Buffers
Expert-level knowledge of mobile camera and media systems including capture pipelines, codecs and local storage management
Expert-level knowledge of building resilient applications for unreliable networks including background transfers, queuing, retries and partial-failure handling
Comfort with mobile CI/CD and automated release pipelines
Comfort with writing unit and integration tests
Comfort with Git, code management and code review practices
Comfort with task and ticket management tools such as Jira
Comfort with mobile application architecture and design
Comfort with Android device lifecycle constraints including thermal behaviour, battery usage, background execution limits, permissions and OS version differences
Comfort with web service integration and API contracts

Nice-to-have

Understanding of real-time and latency-sensitive data delivery
Understanding of integrating native computer vision or machine learning components into Android applications
Understanding of coordinating multiple devices as part of a single system
Understanding of Kotlin Multiplatform as a potential route to iOS
