Responsibilities

Ownership of on-device inference
Design and implementation of Android inference solutions
Development and maintenance of native Android vision layer using C++ and Android NDK
Creation of JNI bindings connecting native components to Kotlin application
Model conversion, quantisation, profiling and optimisation for mobile
Solving real-world camera challenges related to frame timing, exposure and camera behaviour
Building validation tools and measurement processes for accuracy
Engineering for real devices considering thermal constraints, battery consumption and hardware differences
Collaboration on model improvements with computer vision and machine learning specialists
Shaping technical decisions on device versus elsewhere processing
Building production-quality software meeting engineering standards
Cross-disciplinary communication with mobile, backend and machine learning engineers
Use of AI-assisted and delegated development tools

Requirements

Applied computer vision or machine learning engineering experience of at least 4 years including production deployment
Experience running inference on Android or embedded devices
Degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or related discipline or equivalent practical experience
Expert-level knowledge of applied computer vision including object detection, tracking and camera geometry
Expert-level knowledge of mobile or embedded inference runtimes including model conversion and quantisation toolchains
Expert-level knowledge of model optimisation and performance profiling for resource-constrained hardware
Expert-level knowledge of C++ including Android NDK and JNI
Experience measuring and validating model accuracy against ground truth
Comfortable with Kotlin for JNI boundary work
Comfortable with Python for prototyping, tooling and data analysis
Familiarity with mobile camera capture pipelines including frame timing and exposure control
Understanding of machine learning fundamentals
Experience with Git, code reviews and continuous integration practices

Nice-to-have

Experience in automotive, embedded systems or other resource-constrained environments
Knowledge of real-time and latency-sensitive systems
Knowledge of spatial computing and multi-view reconstruction
Understanding of Android application development and release lifecycle
