Responsibilities
RF-EngineerThe Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland. We conduct cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation, and the fundamentals of nature. By performing both fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science, and the economy. PSI is strongly committed to training future generations; around one quarter of our staff are postdocs, postgraduates, or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employspeople. The ETHZ PSI Quantum Computing Hub, jointly founded by PSI and ETH Zurich, develops large scale quantum computers and strengthens collaboration between academic and industrial partners in the growing quantum technology ecosystem. One such collaboration with HUBER+SUHNER AG aims to advance high density RF wiring for controlling large scale superconducting quantum processors inside dilution cryostats. To characterize the high-density wiring with the systems developed in the Quantum Device Laboratory (Home | Quantum Device Lab) at ETH Zurich and the Superconducting Circuit Quantum Computing Group (Superconducting Quantum Circuits Group | Laboratory for Nano and Quantum Technologies | PSI) PSI we are looking for anRF-EngineerYour tasksAssist in defining the initial specifications and testing methods for high-density wiring, based on our prior researchLead efforts to characterize and benchmark the developed product at room temperature and at millikelvin temperatures inside a dilution cryostatSimplify or modify the testing methods to make them suitable for long-term deployment outside the research environment and for incorporation into HUBER+SUHNER's production processYour profileMaster's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or PhysicsExperience in research, development and characterization of microwave components, interconnect solutions, etc.Practical experience with RF test equipment (e.g., vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.) and with data analysis and interpretationTheoretical and practical understanding of signal-integrity concepts (crosstalk, shielding, Johnson-Nyquist noise, etc.)Familiarity with quantum computing and cryogenic systems is an advantageEnglish is the primary working languageWe offerOur institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will benefit from systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we can support you with our modern employment conditions and on site infrastructure. The initial contract will be for 1 year but is expected to be extended to the full 3-year planned duration of the project.
