Responsibilities
- Act as the EHS Subject Matter Expert (SME) for site leadership teams.
- Develop and maintain Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) across environmental, health, safety, security, and sustainability domains.
- Lead initiatives to foster a collaborative safety culture and increase worker participation.
- Identify and mitigate Serious Incident and Fatality (SIF) hazards.
- Maintain legal registers and ensure compliance with local and international regulations.
- Represent EHS in audits, inspections, and regulatory engagements.
- Support ISO 14001 & 45001 certification activities.
- Drive EHS strategy implementation at regional and site levels.
- Conduct incident investigations using ABS Group methodologies.
- Evaluate and introduce EHS best practices.
- Collaborate on emergency response planning and change management.
- Provide training and resources to enhance EHS knowledge across teams.
- Manage third-party EHS consultancy services.
Requirements
- Professional qualification in sciences, occupational safety, or related fields.
- Strong expertise in hazardous substances, chemical warehousing, and EHS in distribution/chemical industries. Good knowledge of ergonomics is considered an asset.
- Experience leading a country EHS function. Preexisting regional EHS experience is considered an asset.
- Experience with ISO standards (ISO 14001 & 45001), safety culture development, and local/international auditing.
- Familiarity with SEVESO, ATEX 137, and emergency response planning.
- Ability to train, present, and engage with diverse teams and regulatory bodies.
- Willingness to travel regionally and occasionally across Europe.
- Language fluency: Hungarian or Czech, and English (C1).
