Responsibilities
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for a structured and proactive professional with excellent communication skills, a strong sense of initiative and an interest in culture, public affairs, politics and international relations. The role requires sound professional judgement and a high degree of autonomy, in close coordination with the Embassy’s management.
Public Diplomacy Officer
The Embassy is looking for a Public Diplomacy Officer to lead and develop our communication, cultural promotion, and public outreach activities and events. In this role, you will work at the intersection of strategic communication, culture and event planning. You will be responsible for planning and implementing Sweden-related projects and strengthening the Embassy’s visibility and public profile in Hungary. The position is based in Budapest and reports to the Deputy Head of Mission.
Communication and digital presence
You will manage the Embassy’s digital channels, with a strong focus on social media, developing engaging content and contributing to editorial planning. You will also build and develop the Embassy’s media relations and press engagement, drawing on professional networks within culture, media, and civil society. The role includes content planning and production (including basic photo/video), community management, and monitoring performance through social media insights and analytics.
Cultural promotion and public outreach
The position involves planning, coordination and delivery of Sweden-related projects and events from concept to implementation, including budget responsibility, reporting and documentation and ensuring effective, high-quality execution. You will manage project timelines, stakeholder coordination, purchases and practical event logistics. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required in connection with events, compensated in accordance with local terms and conditions.
Requirements
Applicants should have
- Relevant professional experience in strategic communication, public outreach and/or project management
- Experience managing digital communication and social media channels in a professional setting
- Strong writing skills and the ability to tailor messages to different audiences and formats
- Proven ability to plan and deliver projects and events, including budget follow-up and documentation
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Excellent written and spoken Hungarian, as external communication and outreach are primarily conducted in Hungarian
Nice-to-have
Meriting qualifications
- Experience working with media relations and press engagement
- Experience from the cultural sector, civil society, public institutions or an international organization
- Skills in graphic design tools (e.g. Canva or Adobe) and/or content production
- Knowledge of Swedish and/or familiarity with Swedish culture
