Responsibilities

Set the technical direction for AI-enabled platform
Architect secure, scalable, serverless systems on AWS
Define patterns and governance practices for multiple teams
Guide where AI adds value across the stack
Mentor senior engineers
Lead org-wide design decisions
Write code as needed
Shape engineering strategy with broad organizational impact
Drive platform evolution by identifying pain points and leading design of solutions
Lead architectural discussions and design reviews
Own AI architectural decisions end-to-end
Act as the organization's AI thought leader
Educate engineering teams on model behavior, agentic systems, and responsible AI practices
Mentor and stretch senior and staff engineers

Requirements

10+ years of software engineering experience
At least 3 years operating at Staff or Principal Engineer level in an organization of 100+ engineers
Led large, complex platform or AI initiatives as decision-maker
Deep, opinionated AWS platform expertise
Experience designing multi-account AWS architectures
Fluent with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CDK preferred)
Strong views on observability, resilience, and security translated into org-wide patterns
Production AI systems experience including RAG pipelines, agentic frameworks, LLM orchestration or similar
Defined and implemented AI governance in production environments
Proven track record designing and shipping RESTful APIs and backend platform components using Node.js/TypeScript
Strong org-level communication and influence skills

Experience building platform components or SDKs that multiple product teams depend on, Involvement in architecture forums, tech councils, or similar bodies, Experience optimizing cost and performance for data and AI-heavy workloads at scale, Leadership of major modernization efforts, A public technical presence demonstrating thought leadership
