Responsibilities

Managing complex database systems within a global technology ecosystem
Building and managing database hosting capabilities using Infrastructure as Code
Building database infrastructure platforms with developers
Providing guidance and tooling to handle distributed systems
Improving, tuning and optimising database platform capabilities based on business needs
Analysing, diagnosing and solving issues of efficiency, performance and scale
Collaborating cross-functionally with colleagues from different teams

Requirements

Proficiency in setting up and administering AWS database services including SQL and NoSQL databases
Strong expertise in managing PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases including administration, optimization, and high availability configurations
Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform
Configuration management expertise using Ansible or Terraform for cloud infrastructure
Familiarity with cloud providers, preferably AWS, and knowledge of services such as Aurora, DynamoDB and RDS
Experience in building scalable and distributed database infrastructure
Skill in version control to manage code changes
Familiarity with open-source monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Powershell or similar
Experience in using and managing Linux distributions
Excellent problem-solving skills for complex technical issues
Knowledge of ITIL and DevOps principles
Adaptability to changing technologies and fast-paced work environment
Database design and management of efficient schemas
Support and implementation of backup, recovery, and high availability strategies including failover and replication configurations
Monitoring and fine-tuning database performance, applying patches and updates, and automating routine tasks through scripting
Capacity planning and disaster recovery planning
