Responsibilities

Develop advanced optical systems for printing machines, in consultation with project leaders, product managers, and the R&D team. Designs are created in Zemax and transferred to SolidWorks in collaboration with a CAD designer
Work with optical components such as lenses, mirrors, high/low-power fiber lasers, and LEDs. Machines require mechanical precision at the (sub)micrometer scale, requiring close collaboration with mechanics, electronics, and firmware teams
Assemble optical test setups, prototypes, and subassemblies, transferring know-how to production and service teams
Source specialized optical components in coordination with the purchasing department
Continuously improve optical performance based on feedback from service and production teams
Report directly to the R&D Director

Requirements

Master's degree (or equivalent experience) in optics, photonics, or applied physics
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience
Strong understanding of optical principles; experience with Zemax is essential
Programming skills (e.g., Matlab) are a plus
Independent, structured, hands-on and passionate about technology
Creative problem-solving and out-of-the-box thinking, combined with a collaborative mindset across R&D disciplines (mechanics, electronics, and software)
Fluent in English; knowledge of Dutch is an advantage
Stress-resistant and highly motivated

We are looking for an experienced Optical Engineer who will strengthen our R&D team and contribute to the development of advanced optical systems for printing machines.

Work locations: Ieper, Belgium (80% presence required) and Willstätt, Germany.
