Legal and Compliance Counsel

Volvo Financial Services (VFS) Southeast is seeking a dynamic and strategic Legal and Compliance Counsel to support our operations across Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary. The Legal and Compliance Counsel will provide strategic legal and compliance advice for Southeast Market and act as a subject-matter expert on insurance distribution requirements.  The Counsel will be responsible for overseeing and advising the Volvo Financial Services entities in Southeast market, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and supporting strategic initiatives in the leasing (financial and operational), loan and insurance distribution sectors.

Furthermore, the Legal and Compliance Counsel will drive and secure the implementation of the organization’s legal and compliance requirements within the market. This includes developing contracting strategies, advising on customer interactions, and engaging with key vendors and partners. The role will position the Counsel as a strategic partner and trusted advisor, supporting market growth and operational excellence. 

• Provide legal advice and support on all aspects of the company’s activities in the Southeast market
• Monitor, interpret, and implement regulatory developments related to insurance distribution, leasing, and financial services
• Develop, implement, and maintain internal compliance policies and procedures in line with applicable laws and standards
• Oversee and coordinate external legal counsel and manage the delivery of legal services
• Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks
• Support regulatory filings and reporting related to financial services and insurance distribution activities
• Deliver training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal and regulatory requirements
• Manage and review contractual negotiations with partners, customers, and vendors
• Handle regulatory inquiries, inspections, and audits, representing the company before authorities
• Support compliance with AML, data protection, DORA, NIS2, and other core regulatory requirements
• Assist local teams in implementing Volvo Group and Volvo Financial Services policies, guidelines, and instructions, while addressing local regulatory deviations where necessary

• Master’s degree in Law
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as an in-house legal counsel, preferably in insurance distribution or leasing/financial services
• Strong knowledge of insurance distribution regulations and financial services legislation
• Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced, international environment
• Strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Fluency in English; knowledge of regional languages is an advantage
• High level of integrity and strong ethical standards
