Responsibilities

Owning the technical architecture on cloud and platform programmes from design through to production, across AWS and Azure.
Leading engineering teams on delivery, typically three to eight engineers, through mentoring, code review and technical decision making rather than line management.
Building and shaping platforms on Kubernetes, Terraform and CI/CD, with Databricks, event streaming and API platform work depending on the client.
Running the conversation with the client directly, from requirements through to architecture reviews and delivery reporting.
Bringing engineers up behind you. Every senior person here is expected to grow the people around them.

Requirements

A core programming language you are genuinely strong in, whether that is Python, Go, Java, C# or TypeScript, and something recent you have personally built that shows it.
Real architecture ownership on cloud platforms, with the cloud certifications or the delivery record to back it.
Experience leading engineers technically, as a lead, architect or principal, with the delivery sitting on your shoulders.
A stable track record. This firm looks closely at tenure and wants people who stay and see programmes through.
German to level B2+. German is the working language on these client programmes. Workshops, architecture reviews, requirements sessions and stakeholder meetings are held in German, and client documentation is drafted and processed in German under German and EU data protection requirements. The language level is therefore an operational requirement of the role under section 8(1) of the German General Equal Treatment Act, and it relates solely to the language ability needed to perform the work, not to nationality, origin or any other characteristic protected under section 1 of that Act. Candidates who meet that level are welcome regardless of where they are from or where they learned the language. English alongside it for internal and international work.

We are hiring on behalf of one of the largest professional services firms in the world, for the cloud transformation and systems engineering practice that builds the platforms behind their clients' most critical systems.

This is the senior end of that practice. You will own the architecture on client programmes, set the technical direction, and lead the engineers delivering it. It is a hands-on seat, not a management layer removed from the build. The people who do well here are the ones who still write code, still make the design decisions themselves, and can sit in front of a client's CTO and guide a project.
