Responsibilities

A Cyber Security Analyst protects an organization's computer networks, systems, and data from cyber threats by monitoring, detecting, investigating, and responding to security incidents. They implement security measures (firewalls, encryption), conduct vulnerability assessments, and analyze security logs to prevent, detect, and mitigate breaches.

Requirements

  • Monitoring & Detection: Constantly monitoring network traffic, logs, and security alerts to identify suspicious activity, such as unauthorized access or phishing attempts.
  • Incident Response: Analyzing security breaches, conducting forensic analysis, and responding to attacks to minimize damage and prevent future occurrences.
  • Vulnerability Management: Conducting vulnerability scans, penetration testing, and security audits to identify and fix weaknesses in systems.
  • Security Administration: Installing, managing, and upgrading security software and protocols (firewalls, antivirus, encryption).
  • Reporting & Compliance: Documenting security incidents, producing reports for stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and data protection regulations.

Nice-to-have

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows/Linux), network protocols (TCP/IP), and security tools (SIEM systems like Splunk, firewalls, IDS/IPS).
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze large sets of security data to identify trends and potential threats.
  • Experience: Previous experience in IT, networking, or information security, often within a Security Operations Center (SOC).
  • Education/Certifications: A degree in Computer Science or Cyber Security is common, often accompanied by certifications like CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).
