Backend Lead

PROFIDATA offers software solutions for investment and wealth management through its subsidiaries in major European financial centers. This offering is complemented by a rapidly growing, broad range of services in the areas of software as a service, consulting, implementation, training and support. XLab is Profidata’s innovation center based in Zürich, Switzerland. With a small and passionate team, we are developing new cloud-native productivity tools that are good looking as well as fun and easy to use.

Your responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for leading an agile team (Kanban/Scrum) across different locations, ensuring continuous delivery of new functionality, efficiency, compliance with engineering standards, and building quality-based development culture.

Your tasks will also include

• Act as the main point of contact between the technical team and management: translate business needs into technical direction and vice versa.
• Own the codebase, tech stack and applications throughout the full lifecycle.
• Backend development with Java and Spring,Boot.
• Design, build, automate, deploy and maintain robust and secure client-facing wealth management applications.
• Drive DevOps practices: deployment automation, CI/CD, reliability, monitoring, operational excellence.

Your Skills (Must-have)

To be successful in this role you offer a strong quality-oriented mindset paired with a deep understanding of “why this matters” for the end user. Moreover, you bring:

• Proven ability to lead and grow people (coaching, feedback, accountability) in a distributed setup.
• Excellent stakeholder skills: you can communicate clearly with senior leadership and influence decisions with facts, clarity, and persuasion.
• Fluency in (Swiss) German and English (required).
• Deep knowledge of Java and the Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
• Experience in building microservice-based backends using Java + Spring Boot.
• Practical experience with Docker and container orchestration—preferably Kubernetes.

Nice to Have

• Experience in finance / wealth management and knowledge of financial instruments.
• Experience with Elasticsearch and messaging systems.
• Experience with reactive programming.
• Experience building products from scratch in a regulated and security-sensitive context.
