Strategic Sourcing Manager MRO and Capital, EMEA

Job Summary:

As Corporate EMEA Global Supply Management (GSM) Team member, develops and executes GSM Strategic Sourcing strategies, policies, tactics and objectives for MRO, Waste management and Capital categories that align and are linked with the business units, commercial, supply chain and manufacturing strategies.


MRO and Waste management:

  • Areas of responsibility to include: MRO parts (Non-engineered- and Engineered parts), MRO services (facility- and equipment maintenance), waste management
  • In conjunction with EMEA BU’s, manage the strategic procurement activities for MRO and Waste management in the EMEA region
  • Develop and implement related procurement strategies as required
  • Facilitates sharing of savings ideas and initiatives between EMEA locations
  • Consolidate spend, rationalize supply base
  • Identify new initiatives that will bring additional savings opportunities to the EMEA region
  • Achieve cost reduction targets across the range of functionality
  • Build strong alignment with Corning regional businesses, corporate Procurement
  • Carry out tenders & RFQ’s, utilize e-procurement tools
  • Negotiate EMEA agreements
  • Develop, implement and manage contracts with regional suppliers
  • Support major MRO and Waste management projects on EMEA level
  • Ensure Procurement early involvement, usage of preferred vendors and compliance with Corning’s Global Buying Policy and procedures
  • Monitor latest commodity market trends to ensure fundamental understanding of industry pricing trends
  • Fully understand MRO and Waste handling suppliers and their capabilities
  • Help to engage locations, identify and drive Leading Cost Country (LCC) initiatives and related savings



  • Areas of responsibility to include: sourcing capital equipment for manufacturing as well as maintaining supplier relationship for facility builds and expansions
  • Develop and/or assist with Strategic Sourcing plans and objectives (short & long term) based on forecasts of future demand and taking into account economic and currency trends and conditions that affect GSM, the business and the global commodity sourced
  • Work with the Businesses to prepare and solicit competitive capital bids, quotations, and proposals with pertinent specifications, terms and conditions
  • Develop and review specifications, statements of work, performance terms and accept/reject criteria
  • Conduct negotiations with potential and/or current major capital suppliers to obtain maximum value
  • Lead the development and communication of global supply intelligence for assigned commodities
  • Own the Supplier Relationship Management process for the assigned commodities
  • Develop and cultivate effective relationships with suppliers
  • Develop, maintain and execute Shared Objectives and Service Level Agreements
  • Champions and advocates for the Global Buying Policy. Ensure compliance.


  • Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain or Engineering
  • Required Years of Experience:  5+ years 
  • Required Area of Experience:
    • Experience in manufacturing - operations, procurement, engineering
    • Experience as a Plant- or Corporate Buyer
    • Experience procuring large (expensive) capital items
    • Experience working with construction managers for facility construction
    • Experience working in a matrix environment or in a global, multi-cultural cross-functional team
    • Relevant experience in Supplier Relationship Management, Contract writing, Negotiation
  • Proficient in English negotiation level, at global exposure. German would be a plus
  • Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, MS Projects)
  • High business acumen, self-starter, highly analytical
  • Proactive, efficient, autonomous and professional in the prioritization and execution of tasks
  • Proven capability to establish and maintain positive relationships with external suppliers and internal customers
  • Excellent communication – facilitation, listening, negotiation, presentation, speaking & writing
  • Strong professionalism – calm, dependable, positive attitude and vigilant


Travel Requirements: As required to work with strategic suppliers and regional stakeholders (up to 25%)
