Staff Cyber Security Researcher

Role Summary/Purpose

    As part of the Renewables IT security team, the Insider Threat Leader will lead the detection and actions around unwanted egress of GE Renewable Energy intellectual property, including theft, and state sponsored espionage. This person will determine risk, design alerts, conduct investigations, and recommend corrective actions. They will influence Renewable Energy security controls and policies based on their investigations and findings.

In addition, you will:

  • Use data and investigation capabilities to detect and identify policy violations
  • Balance business productivity with risk mitigation
  • Analyze high risk actions, form conclusions, and recommend controls and policies to block or discourage future actions
  • Correlate geopolitical activity to insider risk assessment to determine program impact
  • Collaborate and partner with internal peers, shared service teams, and industry experts to drive world-class solutions & approach
  • Understand and comply with local laws and employee agreements
  • Have a deep understanding of analytical tools and techniques. Capable of identifying the most impactful analytics for building data driven management tools. Develop management control plans recommendations to include control remediation, risk mitigation strategies and risk acceptance
  • Understands insider threat vectors how they apply to different layers of the stack (application, compute, storage, network) to proactively build technical solutions to identify potential data theft

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems (IS), Information Technology (IT), Computer Science or Engineering from an accredited college or university (OR a High School Diploma / GED with strong experience in an IS project management and program planning role
  • Strong hands-on IT security experience in database, web technologies, networking, or a combination thereof in a large Enterprise setting
  • Expertise in two or more: Security Incidents and Event Monitoring (SIEM) technologies, Data visualization tools, insider threat
  • Fluency in English; excellent written and presentation skills.
  • Strong technical background, demonstrated appetite for new technology, willingness to be very hands-on in a deeply technical and fast-evolving technology area.
  • Programming expertise (C++, Java, SQL, etc.)
  • Ability to drive change in a challenging environment in an inclusive manner.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and logical thinking skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Established project management and organizational abilities.
