Senior Model Validator

    We are currently setting up a model validation hub in our International headquarters in Budapest. For that part of our international validation team we seek a highly professional and experienced Senior Model Validator, to manage parts of the group model validation program. This position involves reviewing all types of models across the Aegon Group, offering a unique perspective of models and modelling practices across the company. In general, the Senior Model Validator will have direct interaction with management and model owners about findings and recommendations on both a global and local levels.

TASKS to be done

  • Manage part of the global Validation program, including coordination with local teams as appropriate while both reviewing and taking part in performing validations with (local) experts
  • Manage local Model Validation Committee(s) to facilitate the approval of the model validations and report on the local validation plan and the progress of first line model development and gap closure
  • Provide guidance and support for the application of the Model Validation standards and provide expertise when needed to model owners and model engineers
  • Supporting the Risk Officer Model Validation on strategy, fine tuning and further embedding Model Validation and motivating/enabling 1st line to improve model quality, monitoring & testing Aegon wide
  • Provide technical expertise to other validators on your expertise and enlist theirs where desired
  • Support further expanding the modelling ‘culture’ within Aegon International to assure models are robust and fit for purpose and all key stakeholders understand the model possibilities and limitations while using them
  • The Senior Model Validator may have to travel for a few weeks per year to undertake onsite fieldwork

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS you will need

  • Actuary, econometrist or similar qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with model development and model testing, preferably in life and pensions
  • Hands on experience with market risks, derivatives, data modelling, Solvency II and IFRS is a nice to have
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both in writing and verbally (Aegon’s official corporate language is English)
  • Good influencing and persuasion skills required
  • Good planning, prioritizing and goal setting skills
  • Integrity to uphold policy requirements and Model Validation standards
