Responsibilities

Setting the technical direction for AI-enabled platform
Architecting secure, scalable, serverless systems on AWS
Defining patterns and governance practices for multiple teams
Guiding AI value addition across the stack
Mentoring senior engineers
Leading org-wide design decisions
Writing code with impact beyond individual output
Shaping engineering strategy with broad organizational impact
Driving platform evolution by identifying pain points and leading design of solutions
Leading architectural discussions and design reviews
Owning AI architectural decisions end-to-end with governance and monitoring
Acting as AI thought leader and educating engineering teams
Mentoring and stretching senior and staff engineers to build technical leadership depth

Requirements

Principal-level track record at scale with 10+ years software engineering experience
At least 3 years operating at Staff or Principal Engineer level in organization of 100+ engineers
Leadership of large, complex platform or AI initiatives as decision-maker
Deep, opinionated AWS platform expertise
Design of multi-account AWS architectures
Fluency with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform or CDK
Strong views on observability, resilience, and security translated into org-wide patterns
Production AI systems experience with shipped AI-enabled systems
Experience with RAG pipelines, agentic frameworks, LLM orchestration or similar
Defined and implemented AI governance in production environments
Experience with bias and privacy checks, audit-ready monitoring, AI usage policies
Proven track record designing and shipping RESTful APIs and backend platform components using Node.js/TypeScript
Org-level communication and influence including stakeholder alignment, architecture forums, and mentoring senior technical leaders

Nice-to-have

Experience building platform components or SDKs for multiple product teams, Involvement in architecture forums, tech councils, or similar org-wide standards bodies, Experience optimizing cost and performance for data and AI-heavy workloads at scale, Leadership of major modernization efforts such as legacy migration to serverless or multi-region architecture, Public technical presence such as conference talks, open-source contributions, or published writing
