Operational Governance Controller

Role Summary:

    The Central Europe Operational Governance Lead will be responsible for supporting the Central Europe Regional Controller in ensuring strong governance, compliance and controls are applied to the Central Europe accounting processes across all COE teams.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • The role will work closely with the Europe Controllership team, BPO teams, Global Operations, Healthcare Process teams and Global Process Leaders to ensure the Central Europe financial statements are recorded accurately both from a US GAAP and Statutory point of view.
  • Duties include:
  • Driving quality improvements in Account Reconciliations, BS reviews, Closing processes performed by the process teams for Central Europe
  • Partnering with Regional controllers to develop an Operational review framework on a Legal Entity level
  • Partnering with process teams to mitigate operational and financial risk in Central Europe. Escalating any material risk to the Central Europe Controller
  • X-functional BPO coordinator for the Central region – escalation contact for process teams
  • Leading and coordinating regional accounting issue resolution with the process teams. This includes establishing ownership of tasks that fall between the process teams
  • Regional coordinator of adhoc requests to process teams
  • Deep diving data to help resolve transactional issues or unreconciled accounts, providing root cause analysis and recommendations for process improvements or additional training for process teams
  • FP&A point of contact for the region when process teams are unable to support requests
  • Driving resolution of identified process issues, partnering with the respective Healthcare and BPO teams
  • Ensure no operational gaps in W2W processes – good handovers / no unassigned account reconciliations
  • Driving financial integrity, consistent and effective policies and procedures across the process teams for the Central Europe region.
  • Partnering with the other regional governance leads to exchange best practice on process improvement opportunities, controls framework improvements and common issues that need resolving
  • Assisting the Regional Controller in the migration of work to COEs e.g. Acquired entities
  • Ensure timely submissions of mandatory in country filings - VAT / Statistical/ Compliance
  • Ensure adherence of agreed SLAs with process teams and monitor KPIs to ensure ongoing process efficiencies are maintained
  • Quality Specific Goals:
  • Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position
  • Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines
  • Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration and strong relevant finance experience and/or equivalent experience
  • Agility on core accounting principles and interest on US GAAP literature
  • Experience working and influencing in a multi-cultural, international environment

  • Confidence / Assertiveness: strong influencing skills across business functions; confidence to approach business leaders with difficult messages and defend position
  • Experience working in global business matrixed environment with sound understanding of global process and transactional flows
  • Adaptable/flexible: open to change, dedicated change agent
  • Integrity: Accepting and adhering to high moral, ethical, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others
  • Good understanding of financial compliance: SOX, GAAP
  • Previous GE experience is an advantage
